Removing the sight..

Image
So I've sawn off the sight meaning a stump. I then filed for a few minutes and sanded with 100, 600 then 1200 grit..

Denix 3 - filling and sanding now

Image
So my Epoxy weld turned up (£5 on ebay or something) filled in the little detailed parts and holes/logo and sanded down M96  Logo removed Hinge pin filled in and sanded SMOOTH! Started to re-shape the trigger a bit, but this was hand filing and I don't like how uneven it is so leaving it til the weekend when I can use the dremel... Glued a washer on the bottom and started to score around it for my cartridge seam I was really tired and accidently started scoring the wrong side at one point!!! DOH! Not that it matters i'll sand it off later.. Started re-shaping the firing hammer. This is not yet complete but looks loads better already.... Re-filed the knurling on the hammer too... this looks and feels so much better now!

Denix 2.. more filing and sanding

Image
Filed and detailed the grooves This will need filling and sanding later First bit of sanding with dremel sanding bit.. really rough! Next up I sanded the 2 "washers" off the sides of the sight hinge.. (like original) Then cleaned up the sight text a little with a pick (pointy metal pin)

Denix DL44

Image
So she has arrived! Straight away I noticed the differences on the mk2 No Denix Diamond Plastic grips No cartridge refill guide cutouts Sight slider was solid and single piece Here is is out of the box Notice in this pic i started to scrape away at the "paint" on the magazine.. wasn't happy with that! So i went about poking at it and the file came out.. and the sandpaper... oops! Sanding the most obvious bad areas to start Sanding down the obvious pins.. First attempt using the dremel sanding bit... too rough! Firing Pin sanded down to a nub (more like Originals) Also started to create better knurling on the bolt end Mag release seam sharpened and expanded and on the front it was widened and exaggerated slightly Manufacturing pin holes will need filling in later

Han's Cap...

Image
So after some research I have found out that Han's cap is not the same as everyone else's! I will not settle for RL's "a cap will do" requirement from the CRL... So i'm going all out to get the right one! Met a lovely guy on Etsy called "mrhemmingsworkshop" who is making Hoth caps. I explained to him how anal I was about details and asked (given reference) would he update them and make me one. He agreed! He sent me these after finishing what I had asked for...   I am completely chuffed with this! It's amazing work... I then watched the film frame by frame and noticed something... His cap doesnt have the chin flaps! It's cut off! This is so that it isnt poking out when he has his Parka on... makes sense actually it would have looked dumb... So a new one, custom made and Han style modified is coming for me...!!

Rank Badge and Comms

Image
Talked to Ross Walmsley from the IOW Garrison and discussed at length the details I wanted for the Rank Badge and Comms link. Ross managed to create these!! I am so chuffed they look amazing. Can't wait to see them in real life...

Boots!

Image
Boots have arrived from Ebay. They turned up really fast (like 10 days) from China! I am actually genuinely suprised by them. They are fairly well made, quite thin material and theres no ankle support but for a costume I am pretty shocked for the price. They look good, and well worth the money. I planned on upgrading them as they need more velcro to hold them together better. Colour - they are quite dark. I plan(ned) on making them lighter somehow.. Size - They fit me really well after I requested size 10 Accuracy - The sole is too deep at the back. But otherwise they look kinda good! I was thinking of wrapping the boot straps around further and putting the rivets/snaps in just like the film.. As seen on the back of Han's when hes pulling Luke to the TaunTaun Problem............ they have a zip. A HUGE Zip all the way up the back. I struggled to find any boots like this so for £40 i wasnt too bothered. I would be able to adjust them. I figured I could cu

Holster Decisions...

Image
So I've been contemplating my Holster. Reading all reviews on RPF and RL forums ive decided to go for Todd's. - Anovos is CRAZY expensive with shipping and import duties, but is the best. In my opinion the fact that you can change the sizing AND reconfigure for different movie set ups is amazing. - Todd's - quality is GREAT and HALF the price of Anovos. Plus there's next to no waiting time. Down size is you choose your size and stick with it! As i'm doing a Hoth Han and it's going OVER the Parka, It will have to be quite big and will not fit me as a regular Han :( Its been ordered! It's on the way as of 24/01/18 Updates and photos when it arrives....

Goggle Making...

Image
So I want some Carrer 98 original goggles... but they are rare as s**t and not possible to obtain!! I've been looking for alternatives but its REALLY really hard to find anything that's as close to the originals as possible.. then i stumbled upon these safety goggles... VERY close shape.. So had a go at chopping some up to see what they looked like! Now i need to put some rivets/studs in to perfect it but i am really impressed with the shape! Once they are sprayed white these should look just the part!

Parka ordered!

Image
So after a lot of research I ordered my Parka from Magnoli Clothiers in BROWN. It's expensive, and will probably be the most expensive costume I have made so far.. but needs must!
