Boots!

Boots have arrived from Ebay. They turned up really fast (like 10 days) from China!

I am actually genuinely suprised by them. They are fairly well made, quite thin material and theres no ankle support but for a costume I am pretty shocked for the price.

They look good, and well worth the money. I planned on upgrading them as they need more velcro to hold them together better.




  • Colour - they are quite dark. I plan(ned) on making them lighter somehow..
  • Size - They fit me really well after I requested size 10
  • Accuracy - The sole is too deep at the back. But otherwise they look kinda good! I was thinking of wrapping the boot straps around further and putting the rivets/snaps in just like the film..

Problem............ they have a zip. A HUGE Zip all the way up the back. I struggled to find any boots like this so for £40 i wasnt too bothered. I would be able to adjust them. I figured I could cut the zips out or cover them with a joining strip of the same colour suede. I enquired to the Ebay company that I got them from and they swore blind that the boots did not have a Zip!
So i sent them this...


As i was Emailing them on Ebay I randomly saw a post for another pair with NO ZIP. This time with Photos showing no Zip. So I asked the Seller again about the Zip and they just offered a refund. So I am going to send them back. Shame as I really like them.... lets see what the next pair look like...

And so it begins...  I've always loved Han.. I think he's my favourite character. I've already done a Chewie costume (see my other blog) and I always loved the Hoth scenes where they were hunting the probe droid. I've decided to build a Han Solo Hoth costume, to be as accurate as possible and also covered in snow! It's going to be cold looking, dirty, and hopefully keep me warm when I do those outside cold troops (hello London premiere!) Denix 2.. more filing and sanding

Filed and detailed the grooves This will need filling and sanding later First bit of sanding with dremel sanding bit.. really rough! Next up I sanded the 2 "washers" off the sides of the sight hinge.. (like original) Then cleaned up the sight text a little with a pick (pointy metal pin)

Painting the DL44

Ok so I was doing research on how to get the weathering right and I wanted to make this as close to the original paint work as possible. This is how it started - Aluminium blacked body - Chrome/Alu Flash suppressor - Cast metal and brass scope - Black (anodised?) metal scope mount This was the goal : I sprayed the scope mount a base coat of silver and then black over the top as a final coat. The scope was sprayed brass and then a top coat of black. The disc was sprayed brass then silver then a top coat of black with weathering levels between. The weathering was achieved by doing this : Dabbing the areas wanting to look weathered with petroleum jelly on an ear bud, then spraying over the top. The petroleum jelly stops the paint in those areas adhering, and when it's all dry you just wipe it away! Its really simple, gives a perfect 'chipped' look and anyone can do it. The disc was done twice so that it has the appearance of multiple levels of paint.... ...
