Boots!

Boots have arrived from Ebay. They turned up really fast (like 10 days) from China!

I am actually genuinely suprised by them. They are fairly well made, quite thin material and theres no ankle support but for a costume I am pretty shocked for the price.

They look good, and well worth the money. I planned on upgrading them as they need more velcro to hold them together better.




  • Colour - they are quite dark. I plan(ned) on making them lighter somehow..
  • Size - They fit me really well after I requested size 10
  • Accuracy - The sole is too deep at the back. But otherwise they look kinda good! I was thinking of wrapping the boot straps around further and putting the rivets/snaps in just like the film..

Problem............ they have a zip. A HUGE Zip all the way up the back. I struggled to find any boots like this so for £40 i wasnt too bothered. I would be able to adjust them. I figured I could cut the zips out or cover them with a joining strip of the same colour suede. I enquired to the Ebay company that I got them from and they swore blind that the boots did not have a Zip!
So i sent them this...


As i was Emailing them on Ebay I randomly saw a post for another pair with NO ZIP. This time with Photos showing no Zip. So I asked the Seller again about the Zip and they just offered a refund. So I am going to send them back. Shame as I really like them.... lets see what the next pair look like...

Hoth Boots - UPDATE!

These have been an absolute pain. Aside from the dodgey Chinese sellers sending rubbish I sent back, and then 'claiming' my return didnt arrive, losing money, buying a second pair etc... I'm pretty happy with how these turned out in the end! So here's what I had for reference. Not a lot to go on. Screengrabs arent much help either, nothing really shows his boots in detail at any point. Here is how my boots looked when they arrived : So started to work on these. But I noticed a few things along the way : 1. His boots are a different colour at the bottom to the top. Suede coloured bottom 'shoes' with an off grey/suede coloured boot calve attachment. So I have mimicked this with spray paint. I used chalk paint to get the effect on the suede. It turned out great. 2. Before doing so I had to also remove a million stitch lines which just weren't necessary at all. No idea why they were there. 3. T

Hoth Han Solo Costume from ESB

And so it begins...  I've always loved Han.. I think he's my favourite character. I've already done a Chewie costume (see my other blog) and I always loved the Hoth scenes where they were hunting the probe droid. I've decided to build a Han Solo Hoth costume, to be as accurate as possible and also covered in snow! It's going to be cold looking, dirty, and hopefully keep me warm when I do those outside cold troops (hello London premiere!) Hopefully this blog will be useful to anyone else following my build as there doesn't seem to be many of these costumes out there at the moment (I can find 4 globally).

Holster

So my Todd's holster arrived and needed a little weathering. It was also too big. I found a way of adjusting these at the back. I trimmed the part where it narrows to go through the back buckle so that it tapered off earlier on. This made it possible to attach the belt to the next set of snaps on the inside. This then fitted me a lot better. I had to guess the waist size as I didnt have my coat at the time! I was slightly annoyed that it took me 25 mins to remove this. It was completely compacted shredded wet tissue paper that had completely solidified. I had to fill the holster with water in the end and then managed to fish the last lump out. Nightmare.... In the end it came out and this was what I got :) All Shiny and new.... well we can;t have that can we ;) Time for weathering!!! .......
